Causes of the Civil War

The industrial north was progressing so much faster than the south. The north had internal improvements and trade and the Erie canal made in 1825 really set the north up for success. The North was industrializing and the North was flourishing, the north had a huge booming market economy.

Where as  the south was known as the agriculture South. The reasoning behind that is because the south was focused on cash crops. The south was full of poor farmers and the slave owners controlled everything. When Eli Whitney created the cotton gin and that created the need for slaves. The life of a slave was terrible the children received two shirts a year and when they are gone they go naked. The food was terrible the slave owners gave the slaves just enough to let them live. A Lot of revolting happened such as poisoning the masters, breaking tools and burning sheds.

There were many abolition movements such as The liberator which was a anti-slavery newspaper ad a major one was the Underground Railroad. The south made two valid arguments for the keeping of slavery such as cotton is King and that slavery was better down south then the industrial slavery in the north. If the South had no slaves then it would have failed. Slaves kept the economy in the south running.
